your place in Dorset Park

Moving into a home in Dorset Park means somebody else's keys are still out there: a former owner, a tenant, a painter, a cousin who once watered the plants. Rekeying every exterior lock to one fresh key settles the question in a single visit, and the same job suits a rental turning over or a shop changing hands. This page also covers Agerton, Ash, Boyne, Drumquin, Mansewood and Omagh.

Rekeying is our favourite answer in Dorset Park because it keeps good hardware in service. The lock stays, the pins change, the old keys stop working and the new ones are cut on the spot. It suits a move, a lost key or a staff change, costs less than replacement, and leaves the door looking exactly as it did.

Shop rules

One key, every door, no fuss.

  1. A straight assessment. If the lock is fine and the door just needs adjusting, we say so. If it has reached the end of its life, we say that too, and show you why.
  2. Options laid out side by side. Repair, rekey, replace or upgrade, with what each involves and what it changes. You pick; we do not steer you toward the biggest job.
  3. Finished, not nearly finished. Every key tested in every lock, every screw tight, every strike aligned, and the packaging in our van rather than your bin.
  4. Open 24/7, same fees any hour. Send a photo of the lock.

Then Frame repair, a new strike and a fresh cylinder.

The wood is rebuilt before new hardware goes in, so the door locks tonight.

If They came in through a window, but your spare keys were on the hook.

Then Rekey every lock those keys operate.

Anything those keys open needs new pins: house, garage and shed, and a taken car key should be deprogrammed. Lock Rekeying

If There are fresh tool marks around the lock but nobody got in.

Then A security check of that door and the others.

We look at what held and suggest reinforcements that make a second attempt pointless.

Every square is one home in a hundred.

  • 19 in 100 homes · newer homes

Where homes are new, rekeying the exterior doors to a fresh key is the tidy way to close that chapter, and it takes a single visit.
  • Single-detached houses make up about 57% of homes in Milton (2021 Census).Neighbourhoods of houses beside townhouses and low-rise buildings have a range of door constructions: solid wood, steel, fibreglass and metal-clad. A locksmith who works in such an area is used to fitting hardware to all of them without new holes.

Questions we hear most

How long does a home lockout usually take once the locksmith arrives?

The opening itself is often the shortest part of the visit; verifying identification, examining the lock and testing the door afterwards take a share of the time too. A standard knob or deadbolt on a well-fitting door is generally a matter of minutes, while a high-security cylinder, a frozen lock or a swollen door takes longer. If a cylinder has to be drilled and replaced, or locks are rekeyed while the locksmith is there, allow extra time for that work.

Last night the door would not lock either. Is that the same problem?

Sometimes, though a deadlatch that will not catch at closing and a bolt that refuses to withdraw at opening are different mechanisms, not automatically the same fault. A door dropped on its pivots or a cam slipped behind the cylinder can affect either one; a closer stopping short of the strike explains a latch that will not catch but not a bolt that will not retract. The locksmith checks each symptom on its own during the visit and tests the door closing under its own weight before leaving.

I rent. Who arranges the repair, and can I change the lock myself?

Tell your landlord or property manager as soon as the police have been called; provincial tenancy law makes the landlord responsible for repairs to the unit, and most will arrange the locksmith. A tenant may not change locks without the landlord's agreement, and a landlord who changes them must give the tenant keys, so the visit is coordinated between you. If you arrange securing yourself in an emergency, keep the receipt and the record of what was done for both sides.

I live in a condominium. Which locks are mine to rekey?

Your suite door is generally the one you can act on, and it may sit on a building master system, so the locksmith plans the rekey so the master still operates while the old change key stops working. Lobby doors, the parking gate, amenity rooms and the mailroom belong to the corporation; report a lost fob or key for those to the property manager, who deactivates or reissues it. The locksmith can help sort which is which.
